    Hey CSJ users,
    I just got some Tulips for Valentines day and I was wondering in when they start to wilt if I can feed them to the hermit crabs? I think they will enjoy them because they never have eaten flowers before. Are they safe?

    Organic flowers are generally safe. However most flowers you receive in bouquets are likely to have been treated with pesticides so it’s not safe to feed unless you know they’ve never been chemically treated.

    Tulips are not safe they contain a phytoalexin, allergins & glycoprotein

    Then what are tulip flowers on the safe food list on Epicurean-hermit? and HCA? and here as a matter of fact. I tried little bits and my crabs go crazy for them. I sometimes drizzle them with honey.

    And I heard that they are safe from experienced crabbers from HCA. well I will watch them closely. Oh 2 of my crabs changed today. YAY!

    Phytoalexins tend to fall into several classes including terpenoids, glycosteroids and alkaloids
