KeymasterHi Everyone,
I contacted my local pet store, Pet Barn in Cleveland, QLD and they said they do have land hermit crabs and they are from the Krabooz company which sells each crab in painted shells. Ugh. My pet peeve! I will do my best to get through to the pet store to place natural shells in the tank and explain why painted shells are not appropriate. I will be printing out the ‘I love you just the way you are” comic and some caresheets and hope to speak to the manager. I doubt they know how unsuitable painted shells are. I know they can get $8.95 per painted shell but the health and wellbeing of the lhc’s is most important.
There is a range of hc products in the Krabooz range, some of which are available at Petbarn.

I really hate the idea of the Lifering as it isn’t deep enough to have a good level of substrate for moulting crabs. The surface area is mostly filled by water bowls and food bowls and no room for driftwood trees or coral to climb on, etc. It’s made of plastic and would make an OK play pen but not for long term use.
They were at the Sydney Royal Easter Show selling hermit crabs and products with a “Complete Kit” which includes the plastic lifering with Zands (sand, coco peat), two round bowls, one salt water pool, Munchiez (food), Salt Crystalz and an Adoption Certificate. Now Australian land hermit crab owners think that’s all you need, only to have their hermit crabs die from unsuccessful moults π
They do sell an under tank heater – which is a step in the right direction, but that isn’t included in the ‘complete kit’ π

KeymasterThanks for sharing the info! Maybe we can make some friendly gestures on their Facebook page to encourage them to change the kit up a bit?

KeymasterI contacted them via their Facebook page and they said the painted shells are safe and their products are fine.
They really do not care π

KeymasterIt’s sad but they only seem to care about the money. Their death ring is fun but not practical
