Michelle – my new hermit crabs arrive on Tuesday AEST (Monday in USA)
    I ordered 3 smalls, 3 mediums, 1 large and 1 jumbo!

I have everything ready for them now.

I’ve added a few things since the last photos.

I purchased two tubs for my fresh and salt water pools from my local discount store.

I bought a plastic tub that is 16cm high or 6.4inches deep and filled it with sand / coconut fibre mix.
That way I have deep sand on either side of the tank.

I also picked up an automated water container for when I’m not home during the day.

I purchased some gutter guard and put some coming out of the water dishes and into the plastic tub.

I bought some dried baby shrimp and some marine salt, plus some organic tropical mix with coconut chips, banana chips, dried mangosteens, mango and incaberries.

I ordered a free sample of mealworms at Martyn’s Mealworms site in Australia.

I was given a container of calcium supplement.

    I think I am getting there πŸ™‚

    Photos to come!

I have updated my tank today with a Reptile One Vine (160cm)

    Greenery for Crabitat

and some Sphagnum moss in a coconut basket liner

Vanessa's Crabitat - sphagnum moss pit in coco fibre basket

plus some in a shower caddy that has large circles that the hermit crabs can climb up and into the moss pit.

The wireless digital thermometer / hygrometer I bought from Amazon arrived a few days ago and is working well.

Wireless Thermo-Hygrometer gauge with one remote sensor

I visited the Smith Family after Mitre 10 and found a cool aquarium ornament that had holes in it.

Beth – my husband keeps saying that lol

Stacy – they will be here very soon!

I will quickly take a photo of them before I put them in the tank because they will probably dig down for quite a while before re-emerging.

I already have names before they even get here lol.

Arnaliese for the hermit crab in the prettiest shell and Taleisha for the smallest hermit crab.

Dennis for a boy and Josie for a girl. My uncle Dennis made the retaining wall and my Aunt his wife helped me get so many of the supplies and is a wonderful support on a regular basis.

Julie for a girl crab and Bruce for the jumbo if it is a boy – after my friends Julie and Bruce

I have 2 left unnamed. Most probably based on behaviour πŸ™‚
