Amanda
ParticipantHello everyone, I’m Amanda though some call me Manda or by my nickname Chi…I really don’t mind what people settle on to call me though.
I’m new here to CSJ, but not so much to crabbing. I’ve had my little colony for about a year now and we have just added two new crabs that I recently bought, Leon and Tigger (My mom–who is my crabbing partner–has decided that she will call Leon, Noel. My boyfriend and I decided that Tigger is planning world domination).
Tigger is a small PP and so is Leon, who is a bit bigger, though I have not had time to measure either of their sizes unfortunately. I would like to estimate that Tigger might be about an inch and a half for width and Leon may be about two inches (again estimating). Both crabs are healthy and were quite happy to be in their new home of our glass cage, a 45 gallon tank. As always the new crabs decided to make a dramatic entrance to their new family with Tigger refusing to let go of the napkin we inserted for humidity into their box when we were bringing them home. Leon wanted to one-up his partner and crime and latched onto the box and did not let go until fresh coconut fiber was under his feet–or rather claws. Those silly little crabs, they take after the others already! This spells chaos for sure, my little guys are notorious cage wreckers, I have no decided that I can set up the cage any way I want but they WILL change it to the way they want (shells being buried, pushed into the salt water dish or moss being thrown around). I’m glad they are happy though.
Now I’m just hoping that Leon will change into a better shell, as he came home in a shell that appears to be one size too small for him. I made sure that there is plenty of shells to chose from as usual and we are leaving the crabs alone to do their own thing with plenty of hides, moss, substrate and everything else the little (and big) guys need.
