I have created an online petition on change.org for Australian pet suppliers especially Crazy Crabs and Krabooz to stop putting hermit crabs in painted shells.
I also included the Pet Barn chain in the petition as they only have Krabooz hermit crabs and products. I have a Pet Barn very close to me and they only sell Krabooz hermit crabs in painted shells. I have asked them to change their supplier but the entire company has decided that they are ‘all aboard the Krabooz bandwagon’ despite the fact the food has Ethoxyquin in it, the tanks are far too small and do not allow for enough substrate level. They see nothing wrong with the painted shells despite telling them that hermit crabs eat the shell to modify it so that it fits them better. They state that since the paint is non toxic there is nothing wrong with them.
Please sign the petition and leave a comment and I will print out the petition and comments tomorrow and send them off to Pet Barn, Krabooz and Crazy Crabs. Every signature helps! We have 250 already but the more signatures the more visibility the petition has.
I signed it 🙂
I did too!
A big thank you to Maxwell, Pam and Beth and everyone else who signed it!
I am printing out the petition first thing tomorrow and posting it off to the parties concerned and will send links to the petition as well.
I would love to get 1000 signatures eventually 🙂
Yes, I’m an optimist but think of all the hermit crab owners out there, past and present!
