I have a million Snow Drop flowers around my house that I know haven’t been treated with pesticides can I give my crabby’s a few? My crabs go CRAZY for flowers and popcorn, but that’s a different story. I also have a bunch of mosses that I know aren’t treated with pesticide can I test these as well? I could put it on a food trial… What do you guys think?
i believe most mosses are safe, but not 100% as long as they don’t have pine needles in them, or anything from the evergreen family.
Okay I will. Yes Snow drop are the actual name of the flower. Unless there is a different name?
Here is a picture if it will work. If not just type in Snow Drop Flowers on Google or Yahoo and look on images
snowdrops real name is Galanthus. I don’t see it on the list, but be careful. Says it comes from the subspecies: Amaryllidoideae which is related to the Amaryilla (which IS toxic)
Here you can see a list of proven safe foods: http://hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=64004
OK so I have found out from Sachs Crab Page, that mosses are all fine, including ones with pine or cedar in them.
You can also find sachs crab page on facebook if you ever have an emergency question that is not answered fast enough in other forums.
Okay. Tomorrow I am going on a harvesting expedition for mos! So…… snow drops can’t be fed? Or they can but not very often?
you can try the snow drops. I don’t see them on the toxic list. Just make sure to wash them really well before putting anything from the garden into your tank. You don’t want any buggies getting into your crabitat.
