This was a big hit on the FB group so we can play here too for the non FB people.
Let’s play a game (Thanks to Eric for this one!):
I just handed you a 10 gallon tank and a hermit crab.
Using ONLY the items a REGULAR HOME would have how can you set up this crabitat to get it as close to livable as possible?
(no cheating by reusing your other pet supplies)
You can’t go to the store for let’s say 5 days and no ordering online.
Stick to the rules, this could be super helpful information.
Hmm I will give it a try
water dishes I will use chinese food plastic dishes from take out
i always have distilled water so I can use that
Aluminium foil for the top cover and use a piece of wood from a wine bottle box too for a more stable top
I have some terra cotta pots that can be used for hiding places
I have pringle lids for a food dish or two
the substrate, hmm…i have some shredded paper from my shredder, that might do for a short time
for heat source I can situate the tank on my plastic milk carrying cartons in front of the radiator and wrap a towel around the back and side to help keep it warm.
I have suction cups to stick to the tank and can use some of my wire ties looped together and make some climbing stuff for the crab.
I also can use some plastic lids from food containers and punch holes in them and connect with wire ties for more climbing stuff.
Food well I have some fresh veggies and fruit for now to give him and some oats too.
Can you think of anything else?
