Looking to hear what others use for natural color enhancement for your crabs. What do you use to keep good coloring in your crabs?

Pam I took our Beta Carotene foods from our lists and I try to feed from that list often. Whether or not they eat it is another story.

Good idea and good point if they will eat them. I always looking to hear what others do. Thanks Stacy.

    Anybody else?

I’ve been wondering the same thing, Pam. I just adopted my first 2 PPs a few weeks ago from Petsmart, and they have a very pale coloration. However, the new one I adopted today has a much brighter red coloring. He’s obviously the oldest of the three, so I’m not sure if maybe that is a factor. Perhaps the time from last molt also is a factor? I don’t know their molt histories, and no one has molted while here, that I know of.

I just bought a dried vegetable mix that was on sale in the rabbit and guinea pig aisle. Since my crabs are kept hidden from some family members, I don’t get them a lot of fresh fruits and veggies. I also bought a strawberry flavored powder that has all natural ingredients. I’ll have to post a follow-up and let you know if the dried veggies and strawberry powder improve their coloration over time. The veggies have carrots in them, so if beta carotene improves it, that should help. I do try to feed pureed mango/mango juice a few times a week, when I drink it. Good luck!

I offer the usuals, carrots, strawberries, cherries & blueberries but raspberries are by far my crew’s favorite. I dehydrate everything, reduce them to a powder in an old coffee grinder and mix it all together with a little organic coconut. Few self-respecting crabs will pass up the aroma of coconut so use it to your advantage. 😉
