I have two new hermit crabs and I was wondering if I could use oly2 sand I heard it is the cleanest sand and it fine sand. If not what play sand would be best to use.
I’m not sure what oly2 sand is???
Itis used sometimes in contrustion but it fresh from the beach and then very very thoroughly cleaned it is suppose to be some of the cleanest sand there is and no toxic stuff in it
Sometimes there are things you cannot clean out of sand. Best type of sand to use is Carib sea Aragonite sand, oolitic sugar grain size. Perfect for the crabs. 30 lbs. $19.99 at Petsmart. Do you know about the heat and humidity needs? About fresh and ocean salt water?
Yeah I know all about the other stuff they need I was just wondering about the sand because it is also used in playgrounds and cat litter boxes and all sorts of things and they never add any chemicals or anything to the sand they try to keep it as clean as possible that is why I was hoping it was would be fine. And I figured I could also clean it one more time before putting it in the cage for good measure.
In the past we’ve had reports of people finding metal filings in their playsand. Sand meant for children’s sandboxes. So as a rule I would say no to any type of sand that is not designed for an aquarium. I’m not sure why anyone would go to great lengths to purify construction sand?
